Anticipation

Anticipation: the act of looking forward; a visualization of a future event.

When first married, 47 years ago, Mary and I embarked on a trip to the Badlands and Mount Rushmore. We rented a pop-up camper and towed it with our 1964 Corvair. We stayed in state parks and National Forest Preserves. At the time we were living in Omaha where I was stationed with the Air Force. We promised ourselves that some day we would travel west again and this time visit some of the National Parks and other sites. Now, almost five decades later, we are keeping that promise to ourselves.

On Monday, September 8th, Mary, John, and I will begin our journey westward. The first destination will be Monona, Iowa which is in the eastern part of the Hawkeye State. We will be visiting with Mary's sister, Marsha, and attending the wedding of Marsha and Ernie's daughter, Cassandra. Part of the festivities will include a gathering of Mary's family including her Mom who has recently "bounced back" from life threatening health issues.

Monday, September 15th, we will continue westward with stops in South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado before heading east once again. This blog will be my effort to record our adventures and misadventures as we explore this beautiful country. I hope the children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends will enjoy reading this journal and I would welcome your comments and encouragement as we travel.
