Exploring Iowa

John and I spent the day with Ernie, my brother-in-law, as Mary and Marsha are at the wedding site doing pre-wedding things. We drove past a nearby farm that raises Elk.

It was quite cool today with temps in the 50's with a brisk wind. Below is a view of the Yellow River which we kayaked down the last two times I visited but not today, to cold.

Following a fine lunch of Mexican food at a restaurant in McGregor, IA we took a short drive to Pike's Peak State Park. There we had wonderful views of the Upper Mississippi River and enjoyed a fine hike.
 John and Uncle Ernie

I was very proud of John as he climbed up and down the stairs which took us to a small waterfall which, unfortunately, was only a trickle this time of year. We returned to Ernie's house about 4 pm, just in time for my nap. John is now watching a classic episode of "Beverly Hillbillies" on TV.

  1. Hmm. I know I commented here before. Well, nothing I said was that profound, certainly not as impressive as that Elk horn head. John looks happy and the terrain looks like great fun.
