Chicago Traffic and Wisconsin Beer!

Tuesday, September 9th, turned out to be a much longer traveling day than I had planned. Part of the reason is attributed to a side trip we took to Shipshewana, Indiana for lunch and fabric shopping. http://www.shipshewana.com/

We enjoyed an old fashioned home made lunch with wonderful pie for dessert. Mary ate cherry pie, John had peanut butter pie cream, and I was wowed by coconut cream. Following lunch we shopped at Yoder's where Mary found fabric for her next project, John purchased a shirt for the wedding, and I left with a new hat.

Because of the side trip we hit Chicago during rush hour. Bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour. By the time we arrived at our motel in Rockford, Illinois, I was done. Mary and John went out to supper while I rested and stretched my back.

On Wednesday we had a short drive of three and a half hours ahead of us to Monona, Iowa where Mary's sister, Marsha lives. On the way I saw a billboard for Grumpy Troll Brewery in Mt Horeb, Wisconsin. So, of course, I had to stop to buy beer for son, Joshua. http://thegrumpytroll.com/ I purchased, Maggie, an IPA and Eric the Red, an amber ale. My brother-in-law, Ernie and I are sharing one of the Maggie's now.

Upon arrival at Marsha's, she and Mary went to the nursing home to see her Mom. She was very excited to see Mary and is looking forward to going with us to the wedding on Saturday.

  1. We had an easier time with less of a journey. We hit some pretty powerful rain most of Wednesday and unpacked juggling an umbrella, but it cleared up later. Ate some Mexican with Cory. Sorry the back gave you problems in that traffic. Happy to see you made your goal. That photo of Mary and her Mom was really great.. Have a good time.
